Two things decide whether an eSIM will work on your phone. Check both here — it's free and takes about a minute.
1 · Does my phone support eSIM?
Your phone needs eSIM hardware. Here are three ways to find out, fastest first.
Dial *#06#
Open your phone dialler and type *#06#. A panel appears. If you see an EID (a long 32-digit number), your phone has eSIM. If you only see IMEI numbers and no EID, it does not.
Settings → General → About
Scroll to the bottom. If you find EID or an Available SIM / Digital SIM row, eSIM is supported. Every iPhone from the XR / XS onward has it. iPhone X and older do not.
Exception: iPhones bought in mainland China use two physical SIMs and have no eSIM.
Settings → Network → SIMs
Look for Add eSIM, Download a SIM instead, or Add data plan. If that option exists, you're good. You can also check Settings → About phone for an EID.
Generally: Galaxy S20 and newer, Pixel 3 and newer, and most 2023+ flagships.

2 · Is my phone carrier-unlocked?
This is the step people skip, and it's the most common reason an eSIM fails to install. A phone bought on contract abroad — from AT&T, Verizon, EE, Vodafone and the like — is often locked to that carrier even if it supports eSIM.
Settings → General → About → Carrier Lock
You want it to read “No SIM restrictions”. If it names a carrier instead, the phone is locked and you must ask that carrier to unlock it before an eSIM will work.
Try another carrier's SIM
Put a physical SIM from a different network into the phone. If it gets signal, the phone is unlocked. If you see “SIM not supported” or a network-lock prompt, it's locked. Some phones also show status under Settings → About → SIM status.
Almost always unlocked
Handsets sold openly in Pakistan are typically carrier-unlocked, so this rarely bites locally. It mainly affects phones brought in from the US, UK, Canada, or Japan on a carrier contract.
3 · Installing your eSIM
Install it on WiFi, before you travel. You need an internet connection to download the profile, and most eSIMs only start counting down once they connect to a network at your destination — not when you install them.
Settings → Cellular → Add eSIM
Tap Use QR Code, scan the code we emailed you, and follow the prompts. Label it “Uplink” so you can tell it apart. Then turn Data Roaming ON for that line — this is required, and it does not cost anything extra.
Settings → Network → SIMs → Add eSIM
Scan the QR code, confirm the download, then enable the line and switch mobile data to it. Turn Roaming ON for the Uplink line.
Use the manual activation code
Every order page also shows a manual LPA activation string. Choose “Enter details manually” and paste it in.
Using an eSIM in Pakistan
Yes — that's the point. PTA registration applies to a handset using a Pakistani mobile number. Our eSIMs are data-only and issue no Pakistani number, so there's no PTA block, no registration, and no tax to pay.
